Preparing for the future: The coming neurological epidemic

The cost of Multiple Sclerosis

I blogged last week about the cost of my medication, Gilenya. I now take an $83 per day tablet, subsidised by the Australian tax payer (a fact that I am humbled by).

The cost of neurological diseases

The Coming Neurological Epidemic, a Ted Talk by Gregory Petsko (Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, as well as Tauber Professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry at Brandeis University in Massachusetts), puts that subsidy into context.

The three minute talk is a  quick heads up about the ‘epidemic of neurological diseases’ (including Multiple Sclerosis, as well as Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and stroke) about to hit the (ageing) global population.

Food for thought.

Thanks to You Tube for the video.
